Shipping and Handling of Cord Blood
1. How is my baby’s cord blood sent to your laboratory? Cord blood needs to arrive at our laboratory within 36-48 hours after the baby is born. As a convenience, medical courier pick-up and delivery is included in the enrollment fees, to help insure on-time delivery within the 36-48 hour delivery requirement. Parents simply call our pre-arranged medical courier service via the toll free number provided with the UmbiliCord Cord Blood Collection Kit immediately after the birth of their baby, and a representative will come to the hospital to pick-up the cord blood and begin the delivery process to the laboratory for processing.
2. How long will my baby’s stem cells remain viable in the kit after collection? Studies have shown that stem cells can remain viable for at least 36 to 48 hours after the collection takes place.
3. Do the stem cells have to be kept at room temperature before shipping? Yes. Stem cells prefer room temperature and should never be exposed to extreme temperatures. Never leave your collection kit in a hot car and certainly, do not put your collection kit in the refrigerator or freezer after cord blood collection and prior to shipment.
4. What if I do not live in the U.S.?
We accept clients outside of the United States. International couriers can transport your cord blood specimen, provide customs clearance and will guarantee delivery to our laboratory within 36 to 48 hours of collection. Should you be a domestic client and subsequently relocate to another country, NeoCells will continue to service your paid for stored specimen here in U.S. for as long as you desire. At any time in the future, upon your written request, we will transport your specimen to your requested destination if needed for transplant.
5. Why include medical courier bedside pick-up and delivery?
NeoCells understands the elation yet stress that parents experience after the birth of their baby. It is for that reason that NeoCells includes bedside medical courier pick-up and delivery for our clients. NeoCells clients simply need to call a toll free number after the birth of their baby to initiate the transport of their precious specimen to our laboratory.
